WHAT IS A MILLENNIAL?
There are many different parameters and definitions for the Millennial Generation. Millennier uses the definition that Millennials are people born between the years of 1977 and 2000. There are between 70 and 75 million people in this age group, and not even half are drinking age.
WHY MILLENNIALS?
According to several studies and observations, this is the generation that is generating the biggest growth in the core wine-drinking population. Because of this trend and today's market, this age group will be crucial in supporting the U.S. wine industry through the current recession. John Gillespie, the president of the Wine Market Council (see above growth chart) goes so far as to suggest that Millennials are the future of the wine industry.
WHAT DOES A WINE BROKER DO?
Typically a wine broker simply arranges a sale of wine between a winery and an on- or off-site retailer. In return for arranging the sale, the broker will take a commission of the sale. Typically a broker does NOT take possession of the wine at any point.
HOW EXACTLY DOES THE TASTING GROUP WORK?
The tasting group, WTF Los Angeles, provides all the marketing and outreach for every event. At each event, tasters pay a $10 tasting fee and choose their own flight of 3 out of the 5 wines offered. At the end of the tasting, the attendees are given an incentive to purchase a bottle (on- and off-site) or glass (on-site only) of wine from the host retailer.
